Carbrooke Pre-School is a small friendly group which meets in the Village Hall.
We are run by a committee of volunteers and employ local staff.
Our aim is to provide a secure, warm and stimulating environment where children can meet, have fun and learn through play.
We cater for pre-school children between the ages of 2 and 5 and offer a wide range of activities which relate directly to the desired learning outcomes set out by the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority
Carbrooke Pre-School offers:
- A warm, friendly environment.
- Equal opportunities for all children and their parents.
- Individual care and attention for children.
- A high ratio of adults to children.
- Fun and friendship with other children and adults.
- Links with Carbrooke school/rising 5’s sessions.
Management and administration
Pre-School is run by an elected committee, which ensures that decision making is in the hands of parents who use the group, the day to day running of the setting itself is done by Jannine Humphreys and staff.
The committee is responsible for reviewing both policy and practice and for the employment and appraisal of members of staff.
Our AGM, at which the committee for the following year is elected, is held in July and parents will be informed in good time so they are able to attend.
Policies
A full policy document outlining can be downloaded from the document section of the website.
They have been designed to offer the best possible experience for the children and families in the group. Our policies are reviewed on a regular basis (at least once a year) and comments/suggestions from parents are always welcome.
Parental support
Research shows that children learn better when their parents are involved.
Our rota system involves all parents in helping the group on a regular basis.
This helps maintain a high ratio of adults to children and guarantees individual care and attention for each child.
It also gives parents the opportunity to see what happens in Playgroup and to talk to their children about their experiences and gives children the chance to see their parents/carers in a new role.
If parents are unable to take their turn because of work of educational commitments then we ask them to donate some fruit or biscuits.
Alternatively if they have any other particular skill such as sewing painting or woodwork which they could contribute then let us know.
We encourage parents to be involved in all the aspects of running the group.
Parents are welcome at any Playgroup session – especially when helping children to settle in and are welcome at our committee meetings.
Parents also have access to training provided by the Pre-School Learning Alliance and the Norfolk Early Year’s Support Network.
Because we are a community group, fund-raising plays a vital role in keeping the Playgroup going and in giving us the extra money for things like new materials, equipment and extra activities.
During the course of the Playgroup year we run a number of fundraising events and we welcome the support and help of all parents in any capacity.
We also welcome any new suggestions for ways of raising money – so please speak to us if you have any good ideas!
Record keeping
A daily attendance register and comprehensive records are kept on each child. Our system of monitoring each child’s progress is based on the early learning goals.
These records are confidential. You may only see your own child’s records and these will be given to you when your child leaves the group.
It may benefit your child to pass them onto their new school but you do not have to do this.
Fees
Fees are currently £4.50 per session and bills are issued half-termly.
We are able to provide free places for three year olds (once they become eligible in the term before their fourth birthday) via the LEA’s Early Year’s Development Plan Funding Agreement.
Clothing
As many activities explore a range of materials such as paint, water, clay and sand it is best to send children dressed in older, easily washable clothes.
Simple clothing that is easy to handle will also enable children to be more independent in taking off and putting on clothes and in going to the toilet.
Collection procedure
It is vital that you notify Playgroup if your child is being collected by anyone other than those people named on the record sheet filled in when you start your child at Playgroup.
Children will not be permitted to leave with anyone for whom authorisation has not been given.
